Pelvic floor health has been and still is an often neglected component to a healthy pregnancy. Women need to become very familiar with their pelvic floor and do all they can to maintain its integrity by performing pelvic muscle exercises and protecting the perineum. The perineum is the area of skin between the vagina and the rectum and it is an area worth protecting!
It will face tremendous pressure during childbirth and may tear if not properly taken care of. Stretching the perineum (also called Perineal Massage) prior to childbirth as well as during, can help prevent tearing or requiring an episiotomy.
